ISTD Putting things in order

2020

Format: Editorial

My work wants to underline both positive and negative aspects of living in a communist block building, during and after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The communist party of the Soviet Union tried to put in order its citizens through policies, working life and especially architecture.

The text is divided into articles taken from the Legislation of the CCCP that contrast personal answers to questions that I asked family members, friends and colleagues.

Each spread contains black boxes that display, (as realistically as possible), different neighbourhoods around Ukraine, Russia and Poland. These blocks restrain, enhance and underline the stories of the residents of the so-called “Panelki”.
